Dynamics 365 Add-Ons & ISV Apps

Updated July 2026 · By the ERP Research Editorial Team · Independent and vendor-neutral — no vendor pays for placement or ranking.

Dynamics 365 add-ons are ISV applications that extend Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, Supply Chain Management or Business Central with specialist functionality — AP automation, EDI, CPQ, document capture and more. Most are distributed through Microsoft AppSource and integrate via Dataverse, OData APIs or embedded extensions built on the Power Platform.

The Dynamics ecosystem splits into two worlds: Finance & Supply Chain (the former AX/Operations line) for larger organisations, and Business Central (the former NAV line) for the mid-market. Add-on availability differs sharply between them — an AppSource app built for Business Central rarely runs on Finance & Operations — so version fit is the first filter in every comparison on these pages.

Microsoft's own stack (Power Automate, Power BI, Azure services) also covers more integration ground than most ERPs' native tooling, which changes the build-vs-buy maths. Each category page below weighs the Microsoft-native route against the specialist ISVs honestly.

AppSource vs an independent directory

Microsoft AppSource is the official catalogue for Dynamics 365 ISV apps, and a listing there confirms the app passed Microsoft's publishing validation for the specific Dynamics product it targets. It is the right place to confirm Business Central vs Finance & Operations compatibility. What AppSource doesn't do is compare rival ISVs on depth, pricing or fit — that comparison is what the category pages below are for.

Frequently asked questions

Do Dynamics 365 add-ons work with both Business Central and Finance & Operations?

Usually not interchangeably. Business Central apps are built as AL extensions; Finance & Operations integrations typically use OData/Dataverse or X++ extensions. Many ISVs ship separate editions for each product — always verify the exact Dynamics product and version on the vendor's AppSource listing before shortlisting.

Is Power Automate enough, or do you need a dedicated integration add-on?

Power Automate handles lightweight, event-driven flows well (approvals, notifications, simple record sync). Dedicated integration or EDI add-ons earn their keep when you need guaranteed delivery, trading-partner document standards, high transaction volumes or complex mapping — the failure modes Power Automate leaves you to build yourself.

How are Dynamics 365 add-ons priced?

Nearly all are separate subscriptions on top of your Microsoft licensing, billed per user, per document volume or per company. Some transact through AppSource; many are contracted directly with the ISV. Factor in implementation effort by a partner familiar with both the ISV product and your Dynamics deployment.
