Overview
Billtrust is an accounts receivable (AR) automation platform covering the order-to-cash cycle: electronic invoice delivery, B2B payment acceptance, AI-driven cash application, credit management and collections. It is aimed at mid-market and large B2B organisations, particularly in manufacturing, distribution, equipment, medical, retail and transportation, that issue high volumes of invoices and want to automate the customer-facing financial workflows that ERPs typically leave manual.
The platform delivers invoices through email, its Buyer Payment Portal, 260+ AP portals, Peppol and e-invoice clearance networks, and print/mail. Its Cash Application module uses confidence-based, AI/ML matching to post payments against invoices automatically, escalating only low-confidence matches for manual review. Collections automation uses AI-driven workflows and, more recently, AI agents to manage dunning and customer follow-up at scale. Credit management adds predictive risk scoring to support credit decisions.
Billtrust connects to ERPs via a library of 40+ direct/certified connectors (including SAP ECC and S/4HANA, Oracle, NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics) plus custom integration options, positioning itself as a bolt-on AR layer that keeps the ERP as system of record while automating invoicing, payments and cash posting around it. The company was acquired by EQT Private Equity in December 2022 in a deal valuing it at roughly $1.7 billion.
