Sage Intacct wins for finance-first services firms with its dimensional reporting; Dynamics GP is a sunsetting platform best treated as a migration-away decision, not a purchase.
Pick Microsoft Dynamics GP if
Existing GP customers who need to keep the lights on briefly while planning a migration, particularly those relying on its US payroll and manufacturing series that a pure finance system won't replace.
Pick Sage Intacct if
Professional services firms, nonprofits and software companies that need multi-entity, multi-dimensional financial reporting and fund accounting, and don't need manufacturing or warehouse capability at all.

Sage Intacct wins this comparison for nearly every buyer evaluating it today, because Microsoft Dynamics GP has an announced end-of-life with no new features and support running only until 2028. This is not a close call on functionality so much as a timing one: GP is a mature, on-premise financial and light-manufacturing system that Microsoft itself is retiring, while Sage Intacct is a cloud-native, finance-first platform still being actively developed for services and nonprofit organisations.
Why the end-of-life date overrides the feature comparison
GP's finance module is rated strong, with mature general ledger, fixed assets and multi-company accounting built up over decades, and its HR and payroll module is also rated strong with US tax filing support baked in. On paper it is a capable system. But buying an on-premise, end-of-life platform in 2026 means signing up for a migration project within the support window regardless of how well it performs today.
Its cons list is explicit about this: no native cloud offering, and migration to a successor platform requires careful planning rather than being optional. Sage Intacct, by contrast, is cloud-only and rated strong on finance with dimension-based multi-entity consolidation, automated AP/AR and continuous planning — the reporting depth GP's SmartList and Analysis Cubes approximate with more manual effort. Sage Intacct also carries stronger third-party validation, with a G2 score of 4.3 across 3,100 reviews and a Gartner score of 4.4 with a Leader placement, against GP's 3.8 across 390 reviews.

Where Sage Intacct's finance-first design leaves gaps
Sage Intacct is not a full-suite ERP, and its own cons list says so: no manufacturing, warehouse or field service capability at all. GP, despite being sunsetted, still covers manufacturing (moderate) and warehouse management (moderate) — real functionality for a distribution or light-manufacturing business that Sage Intacct simply does not attempt to replace. A manufacturer evaluating this pairing should treat Sage Intacct as unsuitable outright rather than plan to bolt manufacturing onto it later.
For services firms, nonprofits and software companies, that gap doesn't matter. Sage Intacct's project management module is rated strong, built around PSA-style time, expense and milestone billing with fund and grant control, against GP's moderate Project Accounting module. Sage Intacct's pricing is custom and not published, requiring a sales conversation, where GP's per-user pricing starts at $75 a month — though for a platform on a support countdown, list price is a secondary concern.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I still buy Microsoft Dynamics GP in 2026?
Only if you are an existing GP customer bridging to a migration, not as a net-new purchase. GP's end-of-life means no new features and support only until 2028, and it has no native cloud offering. New buyers evaluating either platform from scratch should default to Sage Intacct unless they specifically need GP's manufacturing or warehouse functionality today.
Does Sage Intacct handle manufacturing or inventory?
Not manufacturing. Sage Intacct does not cover manufacturing natively, and its cons list confirms this is by design — it is a finance-first platform. Inventory management is rated moderate, sufficient for tracking stocked items and posting average cost to the ledger, but not a substitute for a manufacturing-capable ERP.
How do the two compare on independent ratings?
Sage Intacct rates higher on every measure available: a G2 score of 4.3 across 3,100 reviews and a Gartner score of 4.4 with a Leader placement, against GP's G2 score of 3.8 across 390 reviews. GP's rating reflects a mature but end-of-life product; Sage Intacct's reflects continued active investment.
