Overview
TaxJar is a US sales tax automation platform that handles the full lifecycle from calculation and nexus tracking through reporting and filing across more than 11,000 jurisdictions. Its AutoFile service automatically submits returns and remittances to states where a business is registered, and its Nexus Insights dashboard monitors sales tax exposure and recommends next steps as a seller approaches nexus in new states.
The platform is widely used by e-commerce sellers, with integrations and APIs for pulling marketplace and platform data from systems such as Shopify, Amazon, NetSuite, QuickBooks and Xero, and is designed to support multistate sales tax workflows for modern commerce.
Founded in 2013, TaxJar was acquired by Stripe in 2021 and repositioned as the US filing partner powering Stripe Tax's US returns. It continues to operate as a TaxJar-branded product within Stripe.

Pricing
Full TaxJar pricing breakdown — cost at 25/100/500 seats, competitor rates & FAQs
TaxJar's Starter plan is $39 a month, having doubled from $19, with AutoFile filing fees rising to $50 to $55 per filing from $30 to $35. Those filing fees are the line that decides real cost: a seller registered in twenty states filing monthly pays far more in AutoFile than in subscription. Model your registration count and filing frequency, not your order volume, when comparing against Avalara or Vertex. Get an independent shortlist with pricing guidance below.
