What is SAP RISE?

RISE with SAP is a commercial offering from SAP which packages SAP S/4HANA Cloud (Public & Private) alongside SAP Business Process Intelligence, SAP Business Networks, SAP Business Technology Platform and Analytics and implementation and service methodologies and frameworks which speed up digital transformation.

What are the benefits of RISE?

The benefits of RISE are that it provides a flexible approach to digital transformation for SAP customers, providing a modern Cloud ERP (S/4HANA) plus various additional transformational technologies such as SAP Business Process Intelligence, SAP Business Network and SAP BTP. This enables businesses to transform their back-office processes and automate administration, seamlessly connect with customers, suppliers and create new efficiencies with integration and application extensions.

What is SAP S/4HANA Cloud?

SAP S/4HANA Cloud is a Cloud ERP system from SAP which is considered the gold standard in ERP systems and is used by many of the world's largest and fastest-growing companies. It provides industry-specific and best-of-breed capabilities across financial management and accounting, project management and accounting, resource management, supply chain, production, MRP, sales, field service management and much more. SAP S/4HANA Cloud comes in two editions — Public Cloud and Private Cloud.

What's the difference between SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public and Private?

There are a few differences between SAP S/4HANA Private & Public Cloud including data centre provider, customisation and configuration, cost and scalability.

The Private Cloud edition of S/4 leverages an on-premise SAP S/4HANA code base. SAP have simply taken their on-premise S/4HANA application and built a fully managed service around it, which includes hosting on a chosen hyperscaler (AWS, GCP, Azure and more), technical managed services such as SAP Basis and some light application management services (AMS). Private Cloud users are able to customise their S/4HANA system pretty much to their heart's content, making it the best fit for large and complex organisations as the system is single-tenanted and not shared with other businesses.

The Public Cloud edition of S/4HANA Cloud is built upon a revamped, separate, Cloud-native code base developed by SAP, based on the original S/4HANA on-premise system. It is a multi-tenanted system, meaning the core application and hosting is shared amongst other SAP customers, although data and access is separated. This makes S/4HANA Cloud cheaper to purchase and run. Setup is often also easier and faster, although customers are unable to directly customise the system and only have the ability to configure within a predetermined set of options.
