Overview
Buildium is a cloud-based property management platform, now marketed as "Buildium, A RealPage Company," that combines property accounting, leasing, maintenance and resident/owner communication in one system. It serves individual landlords through large third-party property management companies managing residential, multifamily, community-association (HOA/condo), student-housing, commercial and mixed-use portfolios.
The platform's accounting module is purpose-built for property management rather than adapted from general-ledger software, covering a customizable chart of accounts, automatic bank reconciliation, online rent collection, accounts-payable tracking against owners and vendors, and 1099 e-filing. Leasing tools cover online applications, TransUnion-powered tenant screening, e-signature (via Dropbox Sign) and rental-listing syndication, while the maintenance module runs work orders from resident request through vendor billing. A Resident Center portal and mobile apps give residents and owners self-service access.
Buildium was founded in Boston in 2004 and acquired by RealPage for $580 million in December 2019. It is sold on three published subscription tiers and extended through a roughly 50-partner Marketplace and a self-service Open API (Premium plan) rather than through native connectors to general-purpose ERPs such as NetSuite, SAP or Dynamics.
