Overview
Rossum is a cloud-native intelligent document processing (IDP) platform that automates the capture, extraction, validation, and routing of transactional business documents — primarily invoices, purchase orders, and order confirmations. Documents enter the platform through multiple channels (email, API, scanners, shared drives, EDI, and PEPPOL), are read by Rossum's proprietary transactional AI model, and have their data extracted, cross-checked against business rules and master data, and then posted into downstream systems such as ERPs. The platform is positioned around accounts payable automation but extends to order management, customs clearance, and quality-assurance document workflows.
The core differentiator is Rossum's approach to data extraction: rather than relying on fixed templates per document layout, it uses a transactional large language model (branded "Aurora") trained on transactional documents to read varied and previously unseen layouts, including handwriting, across a large set of languages. The model learns continuously from human corrections on the validation screen, where exceptions are surfaced to operators for fast review. Validation can compute or enrich missing fields (such as GL codes and tax codes), detect duplicates, and match line items against vendor and purchase-order master data.
Rossum was founded in 2017 by a team of AI researchers and is headquartered in London. In 2026 it was acquired by Coupa, the spend-management vendor, with which it had an existing certified integration. The platform is sold to mid-market and enterprise buyers on annual contracts, with pricing tied to document/page volume and workflow complexity. It is deployed as a multi-tenant SaaS on AWS with selectable regional data residency, and single-tenant deployment is available as a commercial option.
