Overview
Airbyte is an open-source data integration (ELT) platform that moves data from operational systems, SaaS applications, databases and files into data warehouses, lakes and lakehouses. It started as an open-source project in 2020 and has grown to more than 600 pre-built connectors, with an open Connector Development Kit and a no-code Connector Builder for building custom connectors when a pre-built one doesn't exist.
For ERP-adjacent data, Airbyte ships dedicated source connectors for NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP HANA, SAP Business One and SAP Fieldglass, plus enterprise-tier connectors for Oracle databases and Workday (RaaS and REST). These pull ERP and finance data into a warehouse for BI, reporting or downstream analytics rather than replacing the ERP's own reporting layer. The platform can be run self-hosted (open-source Core), as managed cloud (Standard/Pro), or as a self-managed Enterprise deployment for regulated or data-sovereignty-sensitive environments.
Airbyte also offers a Python SDK (PyAirbyte) for code-first pipeline development, and in 2025-2026 began layering an "Airbyte Agents" product on top of the same connector catalog, aimed at giving AI agents governed, permission-aware access to the same underlying data sources. The core data-replication product remains priced separately from the agents product.

Features & capabilities
Connectivity
The connector catalog and the tooling to extend it.
- 600+ pre-built source and destination connectors
- No-code Connector Builder with AI-assisted field mapping
- Low-code Connector Development Kit (CDK) for custom connectors
- Community (Marketplace) and Airbyte-maintained (Airbyte-support) connector tiers
- Premium and Enterprise connectors for higher-complexity systems (e.g. Oracle, Workday, SAP)
- PyAirbyte Python library for code-first pipeline development
Data Replication
Core ELT sync engine.
- Full refresh and incremental sync modes
- Change Data Capture (CDC) for supported databases
- Configurable sync schedules, down to 15-minute frequency on Pro/Enterprise
- Schema change detection and propagation
- Field mapping and basic in-flight transformations
- Checkpointing and resumable syncs for large volumes
Deployment & Operations
Where and how the platform runs.
- Cloud (managed SaaS)
- Self-managed / on-premises deployment
- Hybrid deployment with a self-hosted data plane and cloud control plane
- Multiple workspaces, SSO and role-based access control (Pro/Enterprise)
- Sovereign / regional data plane deployment for HIPAA, GDPR or SOC 2 residency requirements
- REST API and Terraform provider for infrastructure-as-code management
Governance & Security
Controls for regulated and enterprise environments.
- SOC 2 Type II report available
- ISO 27001:2017 certified
- GDPR-compliant data handling with regional deployment options
- HIPAA conduit-exception configuration
- End-to-end TLS encryption in transit
- Audit logging
AI / Agent Data Access
Newer product line layered on the same connector catalog.
- Airbyte Agents: agent-facing "Context Store" over connected sources
- MCP Gateway for exposing connectors to AI agent tooling
- 50+ agent-specific connectors
- Permission-aware, unified access across connected systems for agent reasoning
Common use cases
- Replicating NetSuite, QuickBooks or Xero financial data into a warehouse for BI and consolidated reporting
- Pulling SAP data (via SAP HANA, SAP Business One or SAP Fieldglass connectors) into a lake for cross-system analytics
- Syncing Oracle database or Workday HR/finance data into a warehouse using the enterprise-tier connectors
- Building a custom connector for an internal or unsupported ERP module via the no-code Connector Builder
- Self-hosting the open-source Core edition to keep ERP data movement entirely inside a company's own infrastructure
- Embedding Airbyte's connector catalog into a SaaS product via "Powered by Airbyte" instead of building native integrations
- Feeding a governed, permission-aware data layer to AI agents that need to reason across ERP and other business systems
Strengths & considerations
Strengths
- Open-source core (Core edition) with the same connector catalog available self-hosted at no license cost
- Breadth of catalog (600+ connectors) versus most competitors' narrower, curated sets
- No-code Connector Builder plus an open CDK, so unsupported ERP endpoints can be connected without vendor involvement
- Deployment flexibility spanning fully managed cloud, hybrid, and fully self-managed/on-premises
- Capacity-based (Data Worker / AO) pricing rather than pure per-row or per-connector pricing
ERP integrations
Requires NetSuite token-based auth and a custom integration role
No native SAP S/4HANA-specific connector; access is via the underlying database or Fieldglass module API
Database-level connector; not specific to a named Oracle ERP module
Split into Source Workday (RaaS) and Source Workday REST
Syncs accounts, invoices, customers, vendors, bills and 20+ other entities
Syncs 20 streams including invoices, contacts and bank transactions
Pricing
Data Replication plans: Core (self-managed, always free), Standard (from $10/month, volume-based, managed cloud), Pro (capacity-based pricing using "Data Workers", 15-minute sync, SSO/RBAC), Enterprise Flex (custom, sovereign/regulated deployments). A separate Airbyte Agents product is priced per agent operation: Free (1,000 AOs/month), Individual ($29/month, 5,000 AOs), Team ($299/month, 10,000 AOs), Custom. Alternatives to Airbyte in ETL & Data Extraction
Airbyte — frequently asked questions
Does Airbyte have a connector for SAP S/4HANA?
Not a dedicated S/4HANA connector. Airbyte offers connectors for SAP HANA (the underlying database, an Enterprise-tier connector), SAP Business One (synced via its MSSQL or HANA database), and SAP Fieldglass (a separate API-based connector). There is no vendor-certified S/4HANA application-layer connector.
Can Airbyte pull data from NetSuite, QuickBooks and Xero?
Yes. Airbyte publishes source connectors for NetSuite (via SuiteTalk REST), QuickBooks (via OAuth 2.0, 20+ entities) and Xero (20 data streams including invoices and bank transactions). All three are community-maintained (Marketplace-tier) connectors.
Is Airbyte open source?
Yes. The Core edition is open-source software that can be self-hosted at no license cost, giving access to the same 600+ connector catalog as the paid Cloud and Enterprise tiers. Paid tiers add managed hosting, higher sync frequency, SSO/RBAC, and enterprise support.
How is Airbyte priced?
Data replication is priced across four tiers: Core (free, self-managed), Standard (from $10/month, volume-based, managed cloud), Pro (capacity-based "Data Worker" pricing with 15-minute syncs), and Enterprise Flex (custom, for regulated/sovereign deployments). A separate Airbyte Agents product is priced per agent operation, starting free at 1,000 operations/month.
Does Airbyte connect to Oracle or Workday?
Yes, as premium Enterprise-tier connectors. The Oracle connector uses Debezium-based CDC against Oracle 19c/21c/23ai databases; the Workday connector covers both Report-as-a-Service (RaaS) and REST-based streams. Both are add-on connectors available to Enterprise customers.
