Overview

Kibo Order Management is a distributed order management system (OMS) from Kibo Commerce, a Vista Equity Partners-owned unified commerce vendor headquartered in Austin, Texas. It gives retailers, manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors a single, real-time view of inventory across stores, distribution centers and dropship vendors, then routes each order to the fulfillment location that best balances cost, speed and stock availability.

The platform is built as a headless, microservices-based system, sold in Starter, Essentials and Advanced tiers that layer on rules-driven order routing, catalog/pricing/promotions, subscriptions, dropship and reverse logistics as customers move up. Core capabilities include buy-online-pickup-in-store (BOPIS), ship-from-store, curbside and delivery fulfillment workflows, pre-purchase estimated delivery date (EDD) calculation, split-order handling and exception management, plus a customer service representative console for managing orders and returns.

Kibo reports order-management customers including Ace Hardware, Marks & Spencer, SSENSE, Yamaha, Total Wine & More, Cracker Barrel, Worldwide Golf and Home Hardware, and cites results from a commissioned Forrester Total Economic Impact study of a composite organization based on its OMS customers.

  • Reducing fulfillment hours and order cancellations during peak/holiday volume
  • Running a dropship program to expand catalog breadth without carrying new inventory
  • Automating return routing and disposition decisions for a multi-location returns network
  • Calculating pre-purchase estimated delivery dates at the item level to reduce cart abandonment
  • Layering intelligent order routing on top of an existing OMS as a standalone promising engine

Strengths & considerations

Strengths

  • Usage-based pricing tied to order lines ingested rather than gross merchandise value (GMV)
  • Inventory Promising can be deployed standalone as a routing engine on top of an existing OMS, not only as part of full Kibo Commerce
  • Headless, microservices architecture with phased or modular deployment (buy individual capabilities and scale up)
  • Reverse Logistics reuses the same order-routing engine as forward fulfillment rather than a separate returns system
