Challenge: Severfield's finance function ran on thousands of spreadsheets updated monthly with data from ERP, contract forecasting and other systems, creating version control risk and manual effort that limited strategic planning. The Group Financial Controller also wanted the team to be self-sufficient rather than dependent on internal IT and external consultants.

The finance team built much of the model itself using e-learning and training videos, buying occasional consultant days for integrations with third-party software.
Results: Consolidation reporting moved onto Workday Adaptive Planning and the group finance team reports monthly time savings, with locked-down data versions removing rechecking work. The deployment required almost no input from the internal IT team. Later phases will cover contract reporting and FP&A forecasting and budgeting.
