Overview

World-Check is a structured risk intelligence database used for Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering (AML) screening. It helps organizations identify sanctions exposure, politically exposed persons (PEPs) and their associates, state-owned entities, and adverse media before onboarding a customer, supplier or counterparty. World-Check was founded in 2000, acquired by Thomson Reuters in 2011, moved into Refinitiv in 2018, and has been part of London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) since LSEG acquired Refinitiv in 2021.

The dataset covers more than 4 million records organized under 60+ risk topics, with research teams across five continents refreshing profiles continuously and linking associated subjects to surface networks. Data is delivered through several products: World-Check One (a purpose-built screening workbench with a web interface and API), World-Check On Demand (an API-first, real-time delivery option), and World-Check Verify (embedded, real-time screening built with AWS).

World-Check is used primarily by financial services firms, fintechs, legal firms, insurers and gaming operators. LSEG publishes a directory of ready-made integration partners spanning KYC/onboarding platforms, third-party risk and procurement software, AML name-screening engines, transaction-screening and trade-compliance systems, letting buyers consume World-Check data inside an existing compliance or supplier-risk stack rather than only through the native interface.
