Overview
BlackLine is a cloud-based financial operations platform, publicly traded on Nasdaq under the ticker BL and headquartered in Woodland Hills, California. Founded in 2001, it was one of the first vendors to focus specifically on automating the financial close process, and has since expanded into intercompany accounting and invoice-to-cash (accounts receivable) automation. More than 4,300 companies use the platform, including over half of the Fortune 500, supported by roughly 1,850 employees worldwide.
The platform is built on BlackLine's Studio360 architecture and is organized into three suites: Financial Close & Consolidation (account reconciliations, transaction matching, journal entry, task management, compliance, and consolidation), Intercompany (create, balance & resolve, net & settle), and Invoice-to-Cash (eInvoicing, cash application, collections, credit risk, and disputes management). A dedicated Smart Close for SAP product embeds close activities directly inside the SAP user interface. Since 2024, BlackLine has layered a suite of embedded AI agents called Verity across these products to automate reconciliation preparation, accrual drafting, variance analysis, remittance matching, and AR dispute summarization.
BlackLine integrates with ERP and source systems including SAP (SAP-certified for S/4HANA and ECC), NetSuite, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, Sage Intacct, and Acumatica, and documents connections to more than 30 systems overall. It is delivered as a single-tenant private cloud SaaS platform and holds ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, 27701, and 42001 certifications along with SOC 1 Type 2, SOC 2 Type 2, and SOC 3 attestations.

Pricing
Full BlackLine pricing breakdown — cost at 25/100/500 seats, competitor rates & FAQs
BlackLine publishes no pricing. Buyer contract data puts the average around $77,000 a year with a range from roughly $17,500 to $340,000, and enterprise deployments commonly running $150,000 to $500,000. Implementation and services add another $5,000 to $50,000 or more. Cost is driven by module selection (reconciliations, task management, transaction matching, intercompany), the number of legal entities and the volume of accounts being reconciled — not by user seats, so headcount is a poor predictor of your quote.
