Overview
Sphera is an operational risk, safety and sustainability management platform delivered through its SpheraCloud suite. The ESG and sustainability piece of the platform, marketed as SpheraCloud Corporate Sustainability, centralizes fragmented sustainability data from spreadsheets and business systems into a single structured source, calculates environmental impacts using mass-based (rather than purely spend-based) emission factors, and produces audit-ready disclosures aligned to major reporting frameworks. It sits alongside other Sphera solution families -- Environment, Health and Safety, Product Stewardship, Operational Risk Management and Supply Chain Risk Management -- which share the same SpheraCloud data layer.
Core sustainability capabilities cover Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG emissions tracking, water and waste management, refrigerant compliance, and financed-emissions portfolio tracking for asset managers. The platform ships pre-built disclosure templates and maps data to CDP, CSRD, EFRAG, GRI, ISSB, UNGC, SASB, TCFD, IIRC, CDSB and SDG frameworks, and Sphera backs the software with an in-house team described as 200+ sustainability experts including 30+ PhDs for methodology and data-quality support.
Sphera traces its lineage to constituent companies dating back to 1978 (including Intermat, Atrion International and Dolphin Software) and was established as a standalone company in 2016 when IHS divested its Operational Excellence and Risk Management group to Genstar Capital. Blackstone acquired Sphera from Genstar Capital in 2021. The company reports serving 8,400+ customers, including Associated British Foods, Danone, Arcadis, Mahindra, UPM and SIEGENIA.
