NetSuite Supply Chain Management (SCM): Modules, Bundle & Licensing
How NetSuite handles supply chain management: what the core SCM bundle covers, which capabilities are paid add-on modules, and how NetSuite SCM licensing works.

NetSuite Supply Chain Management (SCM)
NetSuite supply chain management is not a single product you buy — it is a set of capabilities layered onto the core NetSuite ERP licence. Basic inventory, purchasing, and order management come with the core system; the capabilities most supply-chain buyers are actually shopping for — advanced inventory, demand planning, warehouse management, and manufacturing execution — are licensed as separate NetSuite modules on top of it. Understanding which side of that line each feature falls on is the single most useful thing to know before you take a quote, because it determines both what you can do on day one and what your subscription actually costs.
Updated July 2026. ERP Research is independent and vendor-neutral — no vendor pays for placement or ranking.
This page covers how NetSuite specifically implements supply chain management. If you have not yet chosen a vendor and want a cross-vendor view, start with our guide to ERP supply chain management modules, which compares how the major ERP systems handle the same functions. Our manufacturing ERP shortlist covers the wider vendor set for production-heavy supply chains.
What the NetSuite SCM Bundle Actually Includes
Buyers searching for "the NetSuite SCM bundle" are usually trying to work out one thing: what arrives with the base subscription and what is an extra line on the order form. Exact packaging varies by edition (Starter, Mid-Market, Enterprise), by SuiteSuccess industry edition, and by what your sales rep negotiates into the contract — so treat the table below as the shape of the deal, not a substitute for reading your own quote.
| Capability | Typically in the core ERP licence | Typically a separately licensed module |
|---|---|---|
| Item records, units of measure, supplier records | Yes | — |
| Basic inventory tracking and reorder points | Yes | — |
| Purchase orders, receiving, supplier bills | Yes | — |
| Sales orders, fulfilment, invoicing | Yes | — |
| Multi-location inventory, lot/serial tracking, bin management | Limited in core | Advanced Inventory Management |
| Statistical demand forecasting and supply planning | — | Demand Planning |
| Directed picking, wave/mobile warehouse execution | — | Warehouse Management (WMS) |
| Works orders, routings, shop-floor control | — | Manufacturing modules |
| Inspection plans and non-conformance handling | — | Quality Management |
| Third-party carrier, EDI, and supplier portal tools | — | SuiteApps from third-party publishers |
The practical consequence: a distributor who buys "NetSuite" and expects directed picking and forecasting out of the box will be disappointed, whilst one who scopes Advanced Inventory Management and WMS into the deal from the start gets a coherent supply chain system. Ask any partner quoting you to itemise these lines rather than pricing "NetSuite SCM" as one number.

How NetSuite Licenses Supply Chain Capability
NetSuite is sold as an annual subscription with three moving parts, and every supply chain quote is some combination of them:
- The base platform licence. One per organisation, scaled by edition. Multi-subsidiary and multi-country operations move onto OneWorld, which is priced above the single-entity editions.
- Named user licences. Priced per user per month and billed annually. Warehouse and procurement staff who only scan and receive may qualify for lower-cost employee-centre style access rather than full user licences — worth asking about explicitly, because it moves the number materially in a warehouse-heavy organisation.
- Add-on modules and SuiteApps. Advanced Inventory Management, Demand Planning, WMS, manufacturing, and Quality Management each carry their own annual fee. Third-party SuiteApps from the SuiteApp marketplace are licensed separately again, by their publisher, and do not appear on the Oracle line items.
Oracle does not publish list pricing for NetSuite, and module pricing is not fixed — it is quoted by Oracle direct or by a solution provider partner and varies with edition, term length, user count, and negotiation. UK buyers should also confirm the contract currency, because quotes are issued in pounds or dollars depending on the contracting entity. Renewal uplift is a live commercial term rather than a fixed percentage, so the discount you win in year one is not automatically the price you pay in year four. For the structure of a full NetSuite deal, including implementation and ongoing partner fees, see the detailed NetSuite cost analysis, or request a quote scoped to your user count.

NetSuite Supply Chain Modules and Features
Inventory Management
Track and manage inventory levels, locations, and movements. You can set reorder points, track stock across multiple warehouses, and monitor inventory turnover. Advanced Inventory Management extends this with tracking by serial or lot number, bin management, and inventory assembly and disassembly.
Purchase Order Management
Create, track, and approve purchase orders and manage supplier relationships. The system handles purchase order creation, status tracking, and goods receipt against orders. It also stores supplier information including contact details, lead times, and payment terms, tracks changes made to purchase orders, and reports on purchase order history.
Sales Order Management
Create, track, and fulfil sales orders and manage customer relationships. Order management covers order entry and tracking, customer records, and fulfilment, along with invoicing, shipping, and sales history reporting. It also handles delivery scheduling, payments, and returns and exchanges.
Warehouse Management
Track and manage warehouse operations including receiving, putaway, picking, packing, and shipping. NetSuite WMS supports directed putaway and picking strategies, mobile barcode scanning, and cycle counting, and it integrates with third-party shipping and warehouse systems where a specialist tool is already in place. WMS is licensed separately from the core inventory functionality.
Demand Planning
Forecast demand for products and plan inventory to meet it. The Demand Planning module builds forecasts from historical sales data, current trends, and manual overrides, then generates supply plans — purchase orders, works orders, and transfer orders — to cover projected demand. It also highlights potential overstock and stock-out positions so buyers can adjust before the shortfall lands.
Production Planning
Plan and schedule production runs and manage production resources. Production planning covers scheduling, resource assignment, and progress tracking, alongside production cost, inventory usage, and machine usage. Manufacturers running routings and shop-floor data collection should scope the manufacturing modules explicitly — see our pages on NetSuite MRP and NetSuite production planning and scheduling.
Transportation and Shipping
Plan and execute outbound logistics and manage carrier relationships. The system calculates shipping costs, produces shipping labels, tracks shipment status, and integrates with third-party shipping providers, which is where most multi-carrier requirements are ultimately satisfied.
Costing
Track and manage costs across supply chain operations, including materials, labour, and overhead. Landed cost handling rolls freight, duty, and other charges into unit cost so gross margin reflects what stock actually cost to land — the difference between a real distribution margin and an estimated one.
Reporting and Analytics
Report on supply chain performance metrics including inventory turnover, purchase order lead time, and transportation costs, with custom reports, saved searches, and drill-down to the underlying transactions. The same data is available on mobile, so buyers and warehouse managers can check stock positions or approve orders away from a desk.
Where NetSuite Fits Against Other Supply Chain ERP Systems
NetSuite is strongest for multi-location distributors and mid-market manufacturers that want inventory, order management, and financials in one system without running a separate best-of-breed supply chain platform. It is a weaker fit where the requirement is deep, plant-level manufacturing execution or heavy multi-echelon network optimisation — those requirements usually pull buyers toward tier-one suites or a specialist SCM tool bolted onto ERP.
If you are still building a shortlist, the vendor-neutral ERP supply chain module guide sets out what to expect from each major system, and our side-by-side ERP comparisons put NetSuite against the alternatives buyers most often evaluate alongside it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in the NetSuite SCM bundle?
Core NetSuite includes item records, basic inventory tracking, purchasing and receiving, and sales order management and fulfilment. Advanced Inventory Management, Demand Planning, Warehouse Management (WMS), manufacturing, and Quality Management are normally licensed as separate modules on top. Packaging varies by edition and by contract, so ask for the modules to be itemised on your quote.
How much does NetSuite supply chain management cost?
Oracle does not publish list pricing. A NetSuite supply chain quote is built from three components: the base platform licence, named user licences billed per user per month, and each add-on module you select. Because module fees and discounts are negotiated per deal, the only reliable figure is a quote scoped to your user count, locations, and modules. UK buyers should confirm whether the quote is issued in pounds or dollars. Our NetSuite pricing breakdown explains how the components stack up.
Is NetSuite WMS the same as Advanced Inventory Management?
No. Advanced Inventory Management extends core inventory with multi-location stock, lot and serial tracking, and bin management. NetSuite WMS is a separate module that runs warehouse execution — directed putaway and picking, mobile scanning, wave and cycle counting. Warehouses that need directed picking need WMS; Advanced Inventory alone will not deliver it.
Is NetSuite good for supply chain management compared with SAP or Dynamics 365?
It depends on the complexity of your operation. NetSuite tends to suit mid-market distributors and manufacturers who want one cloud system covering inventory, orders, and financials. Larger manufacturers with plant-level execution or complex multi-echelon planning requirements more often shortlist tier-one suites. Compare the options in our ERP comparison hub.
Where can I get a NetSuite supply chain management PDF?
Our independent NetSuite buyer's guide is available as a downloadable PDF covering modules, licensing structure, implementation costs, and partner selection. It is written vendor-neutrally rather than as vendor marketing collateral.
