Epicor Partners: Certified Partners, Tiers & How to Choose (2026)

Last reviewed: July 23, 2026ERP Research Editorial Team

What Epicor's Authorized and Certified partner levels verify, why the Silver/Gold/Platinum badges are hard to check, and how to shortlist an Epicor partner.

Epicor Partners

An Epicor partner is an independent firm authorised by Epicor to sell, implement, and support Epicor products such as Kinetic and Prophet 21. Epicor publicly recognises two verifiable states — Authorized and Certified — and says it has over 250 authorised partners worldwide. The Silver, Gold, and Platinum badges partners display are real, but Epicor does not publish their thresholds.

Updated July 2026. Independent and vendor-neutral — no firm pays for placement or ranking in this guide.

That last point is the one worth carrying into a shortlist. With some vendors you can look up exactly what a badge required and hold a firm to it. With Epicor you largely cannot, because the criteria are not published on Epicor's own site. This guide sets out what you can verify, what the tier badges are believed to measure, what partners charge, and how to run a selection that does not lean on the badge. For the platform itself, see our independent Epicor Kinetic review and Epicor implementation guide.

What Is an Epicor Partner?

An Epicor partner is a separate company — not an Epicor subsidiary — that has signed Epicor's channel agreement and is authorised to resell and deliver Epicor software. Partners handle the work Epicor's own organisation does not do at volume: requirements gathering, configuration, data migration, custom development, integration, training, and ongoing support.

The Authorized and Certified Distinction

Epicor's public partner pages describe two states, and only these two are straightforward to confirm:

  • Authorized Partner — the firm has a current channel agreement with Epicor and appears in Epicor's partner directory. Epicor states there are "over 250 Authorized Partners around the world".
  • Certified Partner — an authorised partner that additionally maintains a required number of current Epicor product certifications, renewed annually, with direct lines into Epicor product development, services, and support.

Certification is the more meaningful of the two, because it is about people who have been trained on the current release rather than about a contract being in place. Ask which named consultants hold current certifications and on which products — that question is answerable and checkable.

Epicor Partner Tiers: Silver, Gold and Platinum

Here is where Epicor differs from vendors whose programmes are fully public. Epicor's own authorised-partner page names no tiers at all. Yet partner websites routinely advertise Silver, Gold, and Platinum status, and those badges are genuine — the criteria simply are not published by Epicor for buyers to check.

The most specific public account comes from a partner rather than from Epicor. 2W Tech, itself an Epicor Platinum partner, published the following thresholds in December 2023:

TierAnnual Epicor revenue (reported)Dedicated sales/marketing headcount
PlatinumAbove $2.09 million14
GoldAbove $1.045 million9
Silver$605,000 – $1.045 million1

Source: 2W Tech, "Understanding the Epicor Certified Partner Program Levels", December 2023 — a partner's account, not an Epicor publication. The same article notes Epicor revises its partner programmes annually, so treat these figures as indicative and dated rather than current criteria. Confirm any firm's present standing with Epicor directly.

Two conclusions follow, and they matter more than the numbers themselves:

  • These are sales thresholds, not delivery-quality ratings. Every published criterion above is revenue or sales-and-marketing headcount. None of them measures whether implementations land on time, on budget, or on scope. A Platinum badge evidences a large, committed Epicor reseller — not a good fit for your project.
  • The badge is weaker evidence here than elsewhere. Because Epicor does not publish current thresholds, you cannot independently verify what a given badge required in the year it was awarded, nor when it was last reassessed. Treat tier as a rough proxy for firm size and Epicor commitment, then do your evaluation on staffing and references.

Channel Partners, ISVs and Independent Consultants

"Epicor partner" and "Epicor consultant" are not interchangeable, and the difference changes who is paying whom.

TypeWhat they doCommercial position
Channel partner (VAR)Resell Epicor licences and deliver the implementationEarn margin or commission on the licence as well as services fees
ISV partnerBuild and sell software that extends Epicor — shop-floor tools, EDI, tax, CAD integrationSell their own product; may implement it alongside your partner
Certified partnerAn authorised partner maintaining current product certificationsAs channel partner, with verified current training
Independent consultantAdvise on selection, run a neutral evaluation, or supply specialist skillsPaid fees only; no licence commission, so no stake in which system you buy
Epicor Professional ServicesEpicor's own consulting organisationEpicor employees delivering directly

The practical distinction is the licence. A channel partner has a commercial interest in the size of the deal you sign; an independent consultant does not. That does not make partners untrustworthy — they are usually the ones who can actually deliver — but it is a reason to get selection advice from someone who is not also selling you the licence. Epicor Partner and Consultant Costs

Partner services are charged separately from Epicor licensing. Our own research puts Epicor implementation services at $100,000 to $400,000 for a mid-market manufacturer running 25–100 users, with the full range from roughly $50,000 for a small standard deployment to $1,000,000+ for large multi-site projects. The reliable planning rule is to budget 50–100% of your software cost for implementation.

What moves the number

Scope drivers matter far more than the partner's hourly rate:

DriverEffect on partner fees
User count and sitesLargest single multiplier; multi-entity rollouts sit at the top of the range
Custom developmentAdds build cost, then recurs as maintenance at every upgrade
Data migrationRoutinely underestimated; poor source data surfaces late
IntegrationsShould be a counted, individually priced list — not an allowance
Training and changeFirst item cut when a project runs late, and a common cause of poor adoption

Licensing sits on top of all of this. See our Epicor Kinetic pricing research for the licensing side, and the Epicor implementation guide for phase-by-phase detail.

Kinetic and Prophet 21 Partners Are Different Specialisms

This is the single most useful filter in an Epicor shortlist, and the one buyers most often miss. Epicor sells several distinct products to distinct markets, and partner expertise does not transfer cleanly between them:

  • Kinetic is the manufacturing ERP. The relevant partner skills are MRP and scheduling, routings and work centres, shop-floor data collection, quality, and costing.
  • Prophet 21 is the wholesale distribution ERP. The relevant skills are inventory replenishment, pricing and rebates, warehouse operations, and trading-partner EDI — a genuinely different competency.
  • Eclipse serves distribution in specific trades, and ECM and CPQ are separate products with their own specialists.

A firm that is excellent at Kinetic in discrete manufacturing may have never delivered a Prophet 21 rollout. Ask how many go-lives the firm has completed on your specific product, not on "Epicor". A partner's overall Epicor tenure is close to irrelevant if their Prophet 21 practice is two people who joined last year. For product background, see our Epicor Prophet 21 overview and Epicor for manufacturing.

Steps to Choose an Epicor Partner

  1. Confirm authorisation and certification with Epicor, not the badge. Check the firm appears in Epicor's partner directory and ask Epicor to confirm current standing. Because tier criteria are unpublished, a badge on a website is a claim you cannot independently audit.
  2. Filter on your product, not on "Epicor". Require go-live counts specifically on Kinetic, Prophet 21, or whichever product you are buying. Treat cross-product experience as unrelated until proven otherwise.
  3. Ask who is actually assigned. Request named consultants, their current Epicor certifications, the release versions they are certified on, and the percentage of their time committed to you. Tier headcount is a company statistic, not a staffing plan.
  4. Take references from comparable go-lives. Same rough user count, same industry, same module mix — and call them yourself. Ask specifically what went over budget and what the partner got wrong.
  5. Count and price every integration before signing. Name each system Epicor must talk to and have each priced as a line item. Integrations are a frequent source of scope creep on Epicor projects.
  6. Test their willingness to refuse customisation. A good partner pushes you toward standard functionality and explains the upgrade cost of custom code. A partner who agrees to build everything is selling you future maintenance.
  7. Bid every firm against one written requirements list. Quotes built from different assumptions cannot be compared. A documented requirements list is the most reliable way to make proposals genuinely comparable.
  8. Agree the post-go-live support arrangement before launch. Decide who fixes what, at what response time, and at what rate — while you still have commercial leverage.

If the Epicor-versus-alternatives decision is not yet settled, run that first: see Epicor alternatives and Epicor vs SAP.

Epicor Partner vs Epicor Professional Services

Epicor also delivers implementations directly through its own consulting organisation, so going direct is a real option.

Epicor Professional ServicesEpicor partner
Best forStandard deployments; direct access to product roadmap and escalationComplex scope, industry specifics, integrations, local on-site delivery
Product depthDeepest on the product itselfVaries by firm; strongest ones are deep in one product and one vertical
Industry knowledgeGeneralist across Epicor's baseOften specialised in a small number of verticals
AvailabilityCan carry longer lead timesFrequently faster to start
ContinuityEpicor-employed teamNamed team you can retain beyond go-live

For a straightforward deployment where product knowledge matters more than industry nuance, direct is a sound choice. Once you need vertical process fit, non-trivial migration, or a local team on site, the channel exists for a reason. Many buyers also run a hybrid: a partner delivers, with Epicor Professional Services engaged for specific product-deep work.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Epicor Platinum Partner?

Platinum is the highest Epicor partner level. Epicor does not publish the criteria, but partner 2W Tech reported in December 2023 that Platinum required more than $2.09 million in annual Epicor revenue and 14 dedicated sales and marketing staff, versus $1.045 million and 9 staff for Gold and $605,000 and 1 for Silver. These are revenue and headcount thresholds, so Platinum evidences scale and Epicor commitment — not implementation quality on your project.

Does Epicor publish its partner tier requirements?

No. Epicor's public partner pages describe Authorized Partners and Certified Partners but name no Silver, Gold, or Platinum criteria. The specific thresholds in circulation come from partners' own blog posts, the most detailed being 2W Tech's December 2023 article, which itself notes Epicor revises the programmes annually. Practically, this means you cannot independently verify what a badge required or when it was last reassessed — so confirm current standing with Epicor directly.

How much does an Epicor implementation partner cost?

Epicor implementation services typically cost $100,000 to $400,000 for a mid-market manufacturer with 25–100 users, per our own cost research. Small standard deployments start near $50,000; large multi-site projects can exceed $1,000,000. Budget 50–100% of your software cost for implementation. This is separate from licensing. The main drivers are user count, sites, custom development, data migration volume, and the number of integrations.

What is the difference between an Epicor partner and an Epicor consultant?

"Epicor partner" is a formal channel status: the firm has an agreement with Epicor, can resell licences, and earns margin or commission on them. "Epicor consultant" is an informal term covering independent contractors, firms outside the channel, and certified consultants employed by partners. The commercial difference is the licence — independent consultants are paid fees only, so they have no stake in the size or choice of the system you buy.

How do I verify that a firm is a genuine Epicor partner?

Check Epicor's own partner directory rather than relying on a badge on the firm's website, since standing is reassessed and can lapse. Then ask which named consultants hold current Epicor certifications and on which product releases, because certification attaches to individuals and to specific versions rather than to the company. Confirm current status with Epicor before you sign anything.

Do I need a different partner for Prophet 21 than for Kinetic?

Usually yes, or at least a different team. Kinetic is manufacturing ERP and Prophet 21 is wholesale distribution ERP, and the required skills — MRP and shop-floor versus replenishment, rebates, and EDI — barely overlap. Some larger partners run credible practices in both, but you should verify go-live counts on your specific product rather than accepting general Epicor experience as evidence.

Can I hire an independent Epicor consultant instead of a partner?

For selection, advisory, project assurance, or specialist skills, yes — and the absence of licence commission makes independent advice genuinely more neutral. For the implementation itself you will usually still need an authorised partner, because reselling licences and accessing certain Epicor resources runs through the channel. A common pattern is an independent consultant to run selection and oversee delivery, with an authorised partner doing the build.
