Our TakeIndependent analysis · Last reviewed 2026-04-24

SAP wins on enterprise scale and breadth; Epicor wins on mid-market discrete manufacturing depth.

Epicor is one of the few ERPs that can go toe-to-toe with SAP on discrete manufacturing at mid-market scale. Epicor Kinetic is purpose-built for job shops, make-to-order, engineer-to-order, and mixed-mode manufacturing — shop floor scheduling, MES, configure-to-order, and production tracking are all at parity or better than SAP Business One for 50–1,000 employee manufacturers. SAP wins above 1,000 employees or when global multi-entity IFRS consolidation matters. SAP's manufacturing IP in process industries (chemicals, pharma, food & beverage) and variant configuration remains deeper than Epicor's. Pricing is comparable ($80–$150 per user per month at list). Implementations are typically 20–30% faster on Epicor at mid-market scale because the product is pre-configured for discrete manufacturing out of the box.

Pick Epicor if
